European Parliament resolution on the systemic oppression, inhumane conditions and arbitrary detentions by the regime in Iran

The European Parliament,
having regard to its previous resolutions on Iran,
having regard to Rules 150(5) and 136(4) of its Rules of Procedure,
whereas the Iranian regime has engaged in the systematic oppression of its own people through executions, arbitrary detentions and the relentless targeting of protesters, activists, journalists, human rights defenders and minorities;
Reiterates its condemnation of the regime`s brutal crackdown on protesters over recent weeks, resulting in the detention of thousands of demonstrators and the killing of more than 20,000 civilians, including children, women and elderly individuals, as reported by multiple human rights organizations;
Is appalled by the patterns of repression by the authorities, including the killing of unarmed protesters, targeted shootings, arbitrary arrests, incommunicado detention, enforced disappearances, denial of medical care and the violent suppression of peaceful assemblies; calls on the Iranian regime to unconditionally halt any use of violence against civilians, suspend all executions and put an end to the repression of civilians;
Deplores the inhumane conditions under which detainees are held, often in overcrowded prisons or unofficial facilities and denied access to legal counsel and adequate medical care; is alarmed by the mistreatment, extrajudicial killings and coercion of detainees and their families; decries the systematic use of torture against prisoners and the denial of basic necessities; recalls how detainees are subjected to intimidation and humiliation, amongst others through sleep deprivation and other physical and psychological abuses;
Expresses profound concerns over the thousands of detained protesters currently being tried rapidly with minimal procedural safeguards and without effective legal representation and confessions extorted under torture; calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all imprisoned demonstrators and political prisoners;
Condemns the regime`s use of the death penalty as an instrument to asphyxiate any form of dissent; calls for the immediate abolition of the death penalty;
