Given the growing number of free trade agreements concluded or currently being finalised by the European Union (notably with Mexico, South Korea, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Chile, Kenya, Indonesia, Mercosur, India, Australia and the United States under the so-called ‘Turnberry Agreement’) exposes European agriculture to competition from third countries that do not comply with the social, health and environmental standards applicable in the Union, thereby creating the conditions for structural dumping that is incompatible with the objectives of this Regulation. This trend encourages the concentration of agricultural structures to the detriment of small and medium-sized family farms and agroecological models ;

Da. whereas producers in the Union are subject to a comprehensive system of official controls pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2017/625, including continuous supervision by the competent authorities, official controls and audits carried out by the Commission; whereas, at the same time, the Commission applies, with regard to certain third countries, the pre-listing system, under which establishments authorised to export products of animal origin to the Union are included in the lists on the basis of guarantees provided by the competent authority of the exporting country, rather than following prior individual approval by the Union; whereas a genuine level playing field requires equivalent standards of supervision and official controls throughout the entire food supply chain;
