Removed:Recital 1: (1) Reporting requirements play a key role in ensuring proper monitoring and correct enforcement of legislation. However, it is important to streamline those requirements, in order to ensure that they fulfil the purpose for which they were intended and to limit the administrative burden. Furthermore, the control of products in the European Single Market, especially in new Member States, is not sufficient and requires further improvement in legislation and standards.

Removed:Recital 2: (2) In its Communication on ‘Long-term competitiveness of the EU: looking beyond 2030’13, the Commission has committed to rationalise and simplify reporting requirements, with the ultimate aim to reduce such burdens by 25%, without undermining the related policy objectives. Rationalisation and simplification of reporting requirements should not reduce or endanger food safety standards, in particular in light of recent research data that are used to determine and evaluate the potential harmfulness of irradiated food for human or animal consumption. The aim of a 25 % reduction should be achieved in other areas.

Member States shall ensure that the methods used to detect treatment with ionising radiation comply with Article 34 of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 of the European Parliament and of the Council1a and are standardised or validated.
